An additional morning and afternoon peak service will be added to the Seymour Line — part of a
nearly $5 billion investment in public transport that will increase services and reduce travel
times across the network.
This builds on the Government’s commitment to phase out the older sprinter trains on the
network and replace them with the more reliable and accessible VLocity trains.
These service upgrades follow years of investment to modernise the corridor, including a $9.4
million signalling upgrade between Seymour and Craigieburn, which were completed in 2023
and support safer, more reliable travel.
The Seymour Line is also seeing benefits from the broader Shepparton Line Upgrade. With 600
jobs created, the project has delivered upgraded stations at Murchison East, Nagambie and
Mooroopna, 59 improved level crossings, and VLocity trains now running all the way to
Shepparton. Ten additional weekly services between Melbourne and Shepparton are supporting
increased passenger capacity on the Seymour Line.
Since the introduction of the regional fare cap, more than 1.2 million trips have been taken on
the Seymour Line — with return fares now capped at $11, down from more than $36.
The Seymour Line is not just moving — it’s moving forward.
Member for Yan Yean Electorate, Lauren Kathage MP:
“This is great news for the Seymour Line — more services and better trains mean locals can get
where they need to go, faster and more comfortably. I’ve heard how much this matters to locals — and now we’re delivering: more trains, better rides, and real results for the Seymour Line.”
